Art therapy is a globally recognized psychotherapy modality that focuses on the use of art materials, creative processes, and visual media to treat mental health concerns.
Art making in a therapeutic context can help people express themselves beyond language. The act of making art is a way of knowing and making sense of ourselves and the world.
The way I practice Art Therapy is collaborative and focused on process, rather than the product of art making.
It's not like art class - you don't need any artistic skill or special art supplies to be successful.
Instead, I will guide you through using readily available art and craft materials to get in touch with creative flow, express yourself, and process thoughts and feelings without the need to "find the right words."
We might use a specific intention or project to structure our work. Alternatively, we might use art materials to doodle as we talk to regulate emotions or help us focus.
I don't critique or analyze the art you make in session, but I will encourage you to create your own meaning from the work you make.
Art Therapy services are billed just like psychotherapy services.
Sessions are held virtually or in person at Ceramigos studio in Austin, TX.
Please check with your insurance provider to see if reimbursement is possible for psychotherapy services.
